Hello!
I am just going to give you a few tidbits about myself before we get started. I am a wife to a man who can eat like a bear and never gain weight (SO unfair) and mother of three wonderful kiddos, two boys and a baby girl, who are picky and not picky eaters. How can they be picky and not picky at the same time? Good question!
My oldest son is 16, and will eat pretty much ANYTHING not nailed down, he is already 6'2" and wears a size FIFTEEN shoe! This big boy is not fat at all, he uses all his stored foods to play football and in training for football, football, football. He doesn't like Avocado, but also hasn't TRIED Avocado! This boy HATES onions! I typically do not cook with fresh onions as the oils in them cause me to have a slight allergic reaction (welts and red splotches on my neck and chest, yuck!) so in order to get the flavor I want without turning into splotchzilla and still getting my son to eat I use onion power, onion salt, and minced dried onions (which I have to put in the food processor). What he doesn't know won't hurt him, and he almost always loves whatever I make!
My middle child is 12 and have a VERY strong case of middle-child-itis and the Why-Me's. This boy is my hardest family member to please when it comes to food. He went through a period of time in his early years where all he would eat was bread, crackers, pancakes, waffles, and chicken nuggets from McDonald's! I had him drinking 2-3 PediaSure's a day just to make sure he was getting the nutrition he bneeded, the doctor said he was healthy and eating, so let him eat what he liked, pain in my rear! Now he is older, smarter, and has a (somewhat) more advanced pallet, but that doesn't mean he is any easier to feed, and that doctor who was SO smart and told us to let him eat what he wanted has caused us NOTHING but trouble since! "I'm not eating that!", "That looks disgusting", "WHY?", and so many more complaints. This child does not, no I cannot name all the things he doesn't like that would take forever, instead I will name the things he DOES like:
Pizza - cheese, no sauce
Ranch Pork Chops - no bones, no fat
Pork loin - crockpot cooked, no fat
Ham - spiral cut, honey, no fat
Chicken Fajitas - don't even think about adding any peppers to this
and so on, and so on.
My daughter is only 19 months old, and breastfed for the first year of her life, with some baby cereal and puree's in there to fill the tummy as she got bigger. Now that she has teeth she tries to eat EVERYTHING! Seriously, everything: paper, tags, towels, toys, etc. She will try anything I put on her tray at meal time. She LOVES Avocados, Macaroni and Cheese, any chicken, ground beef, ground turkey, Rice, Noodles, Grapes, Bananas, Apples and the list goes on. She stops when she is full and lets you know if she wants more. AWESOME!
When it comes right down to it I am the only overweight person in my household, and I am a firm believer that the only reason I am is because I HATE to exercise. I used to do it, and I liked it (sort of), but since I had my children, and got caught up in the rush of their busyness and cleaning and cooking and volunteering and such, when I finally sit down my body says 'move again and I quit!'. It is my goal to get back down to the size I was when I was 22 years old, and I have a long way to go.
